Sunday 29th May 2016

“Experiencing the love and life of Christ through vibrant and life changing communities and creative partnerships.”

Sunday’s service was a hymn service with some of the old favourites being sung. The interesting part was the background of the hymns, songs and writers was told to us by Joan Vogels and Bruce Chappell. Thank you to Bruce and Joan for their work, both on this hymn service and other services during Rev. Ann’s absence. We knew many of the hymns we sang but not their background so that was interesting to learn. Les Reader sang beautifully for us. Bruce told us about Jesus visit to Capernaum where Jesus performed many “miracles” with people being healed. Capernaum does not exist today – people debate where the town was. The reading from Luke Chapter 7 shows a Roman centurion who approached Jesus, even assisting with the building of a temple. He helped with the building of a synagogue. This Centurion was a right and just man even looking after his slave. This Centurion was a man of faith who had great power. Jesus recognised the way this Centurion lived and he healed his slave. Jesus proved to be a great person who changed lives on this earth in an extraordinary way.

Thank you to all members of the congregation who helped in any way with the luncheon which followed the celebration service held for Bob Rose last week. Our sympathy goes to family. A life well lived.
