“Experiencing the love and life of Christ through vibrant and life changing communities and creative partnerships.”
Sunday’s service was conducted by John Mc Kay at Pakenham and Joan Vogels at Officer where a representative from Legacy spoke about their work. John told us that it was world environment day and that it is Ramadan starting tonight. Synod begins this week with the theme “Letters of Recommendation” and the installation of Rev. Sharon Hollis, inducted recently. Please keep their deliberations in your prayers. He also suggested we see the film Chasing Asylum which is eye opening. John’s address looked at thankfulness, when Jesus assisted the woman who was a sinner who bathed his feet. Jesus forgave her sins. (Luke Chapter 7 – 8). Julie Waters prayers for the people also mentioned the asylum seekers many of whom are in jeopardy as they escape unsafe countries. John commented, using some information from the internet that he saw “dying and dead “people walking in what we consider normal. This perspective is the Biblical perspective, not always the way we see death. The Bible uses the word to describe spiritual death – cut off from God and unresponsive to LIFE and our future. These people are godless – self-centred. This is allowing the image of God to be decayed which is often self-inflicted. This death, not the physical one is the disaster. Spiritual death is far worse than the actual physical death. The story of the prodigal son is one of these stories. He coped well initially but then didn’t. Fortunately his father accepted him back and he is back in spiritual life. Believing in Jesus passes us to our spiritual future. Rev. Ann Simons returns to our pulpit next week. We hope she is refreshed after her time away and we look forward to seeing and hearing about her trip.
Today we celebrated Joan Vogels’ 80th birthday with a special morning tea / luncheon. Congratulations Joan and thank you for all your work in the Parish.
A huge thank you to anyone who helped in any way with services during Rev. Ann’s absence. It was a great team effort which made sure that our services were covere and pastoral care attended to.
