“Experiencing the love and life of Christ through vibrant and life changing communities and creative partnerships.”
Sunday’s service was conducted by Rev. Ann Simons who was pleased to be back in the pulpit. When we entered the worship centre today there were footsteps around the worship centre and people wondered what they were. Ann spoke to the children in particular about footsteps and how we often step into the imprint when we see them on the beach. People follow in others footsteps – children often follow in their parents footsteps when they select a career. Ann asked members of the congregation whose footsteps they would like to follow. Sometimes it is hard to follow in someone’s footsteps but as we walk along a path it is sometimes difficult. Ann mentioned that while on her walk when they were walking on the Camino where others had walked was important as it was a guide. Today’s reading from Luke Chapter 7 was about the meal at Simon’s place where a sinful woman with a reputation entered, washed Jesus’ feet and dried them with her hair. Simon was rather annoyed. This story looks at the relationship between sin and righteousness. The righteousness of God compares with Simon’s behaviour. Jesus shares in God’s generous intention to heal situations. He did not see the woman as an outcast but someone to be loved. Simon and Jesus see the woman totally differently – just like we sometimes see things in a distorted manner.
Rev Ann thanks everyone for all the work done while she was on long service leave. She and her grandson went well on the Camino walk although it was difficult. In due course we will see the pictures.
