“Experiencing the love and life of Christ through vibrant and life changing communities and creative partnerships.”
Sunday’s service was conducted by Officer Pakenham Mission Area personnel as part of the Annual Meeting. Trevor Turner spoke to the congregation about the Good Samaritan. In his neighbourhood Trevor has many people from different parts of the world. Trevor explained that Jesus created the parable of the Good Samaritan to explain how people help one another. This may be in a physical way or an emotional way. We had hoped to hear from one of the youth who attended the Somers Camp but unfortunately they were not at church. Angela Forbes from Connections Uniting Care who work with child and family gave the address. Most know the story of the Good Samaritan. Angela spoke about a person she interviewed as a social worker who wanted to a job and who likened herself to a Good Samaritan. Caring for others and changing things for people is what we need to consider. Turning around someone’s life is the importance. Connections work with people every day. The workers are there because they want to make people’s lives better. Working in an organisation where you help people is a privilege. What does it mean for us in society to be a Samaritan. It may be just smiling, saying hello or helping in other ways. It just takes one thing to help others. Smiling at someone or saying hello is easy so we need to continue that. We are born as part of a family and need to spread this love and support. We never know the flow on effect of helping someone but it can have lifelong benefits.
