Sunday 24th July 2016

“Experiencing the love and life of Christ through vibrant and life changing communities and creative partnerships.”

Rev Ann Simons conducted Sunday’s service with the theme “prayer”. She asked the congregation to talk to each other about when they pray. Who taught you how to pray was one of her questions. She also asked us if our prayers are not answered and why not. How do we feel about it? Ann told us her story of prayer. Her grandmother prayed each night and Ann began a life of prayer. In the Bible the Disciples see Jesus praying and ask him to teach them to pray. Jesus develops the prayer into a parable and taches them to call God Father. The words “Our Father” makes us all one family. Acknowledging God as the sovereign is important and then we are able to ask for our requests. We ask God to deliver us and save us. Jesus’ parable of a neighbour asking for bread, late at night shows the request for hospitality. Jesus says ask, seek, knock and it will be given to you. Sometimes in spite of prayers people around the world still are faced with hunger, disease, violence and disasters. There is no simple answers to this. Luke’s gospel tells us that we have to continue to trust God’s purpose in the world.

Thank you to all who helped in any way with Mary Bramley’s funeral service. A great joint effort.
