Sunday 14th August 2016

“Experiencing the love and life of Christ through vibrant and life changing communities and creative partnerships.”

Rev. Ann conducted Sunday’s service showing us images from Saint Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church in San Francisco which has 3000 square feet of icons. Ann spoke to the children about traditions and how we sometimes are rules by them and how some people, particularly the young want to leave them behind. The traditions in the Bible are passed down from generation to generation and we need to understand them. Even the songs we sing, “Jesus loves me” are traditions which we need to uphold.

Ann spoke on Hebrews comments on faith which started with last week’s quote. Having faith in the things we don’t see and through people who just get on with things. Being a Christian is not easy – we have to have faith, believing in things we cannot see. How often in our everyday life do we talk about our Christianity? It is sometimes hard but having faith is necessary. As Christians our experiences can be discouraging. The church appears to be in decline. Hebrews tells us as Christians we are not alone – the early church struggled with discouragement just as we do. The early Israelites trusted God so when we are able to stay focussed on Jesus Christ we are able to succeed. We are invited to run the race as set before us, just like the athletes in the Olympic sports, but the course has been set by Christ not by man. Jesus going first has made the course set ready for us. We can look to God and place our future with God. Looking to Jesus we need to persevere – like him. ebrews     n
