“Experiencing the love and life of Christ through vibrant and life changing communities and creative partnerships.”
Sunday’s service was conducted by Rev. Ann Simons with Jeremiah as the basis. Jeremiah speaks words of hope which tells of God’s promises. This is hope that Jesus is coming but also hope that the future will be supported by Jesus. I am your God and you are my people. Ann spoke of the tragedy in South Sudan in the last couple of weeks with a bus being blown up and people killed. The news we are presented with via written and visual media tends to be over the top in some respects. There are times when we cover up God’s love as it becomes buried under old baggage. Sometimes we move away from God and that hope is no longer there. Living in a hostile environment when bad news is presented to us frequently. To restore the sense of hopefulness Jeremiah advises us that we need to recognise the way of God and find our hope there. There is a place of hope in the steadfastness of God and we must not be fooled by false prophets which we are often presented with. The promise of God made to the people of Israel is for us today.
The defibrillator is installed in the front foyer. Please await instructions. Thanks John and Graham.
Last week a presentation was made by Chairperson Marie Harding to Beth Maloni at Beaconhills College. The prize was for her Visual Communication and Studio Art work. Congratulations Beth.
Homework Hub is held each Tuesday 3.30 – 5.30pm. You are welcome to drop in at any time to assist with the meal or do some reading with the children. Kirsty Simons is organising this and really could do with some help. Please remember you will need a Working With Children Check. See Olive for assistance with this. The Safe Mothers, Safe Children program is also operating with Martha Mai leading this.
Do you have a favourite hymn? Let Bruce Chappell know for the Hymn service on October 30th.
Confirmation classes for older youth Sunday 23/10. (Confirmation service 6th November). The response to these Confirmation Classes has been fabulous. Julie Waters and Tony (a parent) are preparing a “jam” session for each meeting. A generous donation from a parishioner means we have been able to purchase some musical equipment. A meal is shared at the end of these sessions.
Messy Church meets on Saturdays from 5.00 – 7.00pm. Future dates are October 22nd and November 19th.
