Sunday 6th November 2016

“Experiencing the love and life of Christ through vibrant and life changing communities and creative partnerships.”

Sunday’s service was conducted by Rev Ann Simons with the confirmation of 11 young people. It was wonderful to see them in our service with their families. Julie Waters introduced the young people and explained that they had been meeting for the past 9 weeks where they have looked at the story of Jesus and how his story relates to their lives. Using the gospel of Mark Christian principals of Jesus as the Son of God, Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection narrative, discipleship and grace. A number of the young read statements explaining why they had come to be confirmed. Their family and friend and church Elders prayed with the young people. They then presented musical presentation. Julie explained that the instrumentalists had only been playing for about 2 months. They all did very well. Rev Ann explained how she and the candidates had watched exerts from Alex Hailey’s “Roots”. It presented a story and Ann encouraged the young people to develop the story of their lives. They spoke of their parents dreams for them at the time of their baptism. Now they have taken “control” of their Christian lives. It was acknowledged that along the way there would be bumps and stumbles but the hope is they will fall with assistance. Although we are bombarded with images of war and destruction we need to be the prophetic voice in Pakenham to disperse the negative images around.
