Sunday 10th January 2016

Sunday Rev. Ann showed us storm chaser videos and reminded us that God looks after everyone even when it sometimes does not appear to be the case. During the week Ann visited Baker’s Delight and there was Hot Cross Buns and she mentioned that the season of Epiphany is very short this year with the readings from the Bible recording different versions of the happenings about the time. Jesus’ birth and consequent death at Easter time is seen differently. The Gospel of Mark does not refer to Jesus’ birth whereas Matthew refers to it and his ancestry. Luke wanted to convince the people that what had happened was historical fact and he was reporting on the early church and the reason for the church’s existence which was Jesus Christ. John’s Gospel is again different to the others Her does not refer to Jesus birth but the most important thing is that Jesus was there. All the Gospel writers come together in the story of John the Baptist when Jesus true identity is revealed. God so loved the world that he gave us Jesus. The fact that the facts are different depending on which writer you read does not matter, only that Jesus is in our lives in person through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit gave Jesus the power and we have that from God also. Throughout Epiphany there is an invitation to us to decide how the Holy Spirit engages with us
